| So, why did they have a little girl cry through the whole show? Was she a plant? All you American Idol viewers, what did you think of Sanjaya's performance tonight? I think he's winning me over... he's got my little 8 yr old's vote, for sure | | |
| Never in my wildest dreams that one could sleep in the midst of squeaking and banging. Yes, my dear xanga friends, it could happen. My little girl has had 3 violin lessons so far, and my son, oh my son, over 40 lessons in drums. So, like what proud parents will do to encourage the musical talents of our kids, we bought our son a drum set. It's amazing, really, how they like to practice at the same time. So, one afternoon, with the squeak to "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and drum parts to "How Great Is Our King" in the same room, there's mommy, on the couch, snoring away... Surely this does not happen in your neighborhood. Well, tonight my little girl impressed me with her rendition of "Jesus Loves Me" (that she made up all by herself - no teacher or book!) It was not perfect, a lot of squeaking and out of tune notes and it reminded me of how I am with Jesus. Man, there's a lot of out of tune moments and a lot of squeaking aka complaining and whining. But He loves me anyway, cheering me on, telling me not to give up and to try again and again and again. I hope this encourages someone today. Never give up! It may not "sound" good right now, but someday it will!!! | | |
| This is the question that dear ol' Grandma Hickerson asked my kids a hundred times today. We visited her in her new "home" today. She has been moved to an assisted living center last Friday and we got to see the place today. It is so nice - located in Kansas City, MO, we actually got to drive on the Kansas state line and Missouri state line (which is so exciting for me - to be in two states at the same time! Oy, what a Country!) Anyway, she is Scott's Grandma, she's over 90 yrs old, and has a tendency to forget events in time - she can remember us, our names and all but not time - can't remember when she had lunch, how old the kids were, what grade they're in, even though she just asked it two minutes ago, see, there's that time issue again. But she's still sharp - she even gave me a few crochet tips during our visit. She's even looking forward to the birds coming to the birdfeeder outside her window in the spring. This just reminded me of God's steadfast love for us. His mercies are new every morning, Grandma may not know where she is at times, or what happened to her stuff, but one thing is sure, no matter what happens, God's still there, faithful as always. | | |
| I love Fridays. I love the fact that this day comes by every week. :) I can pack the day with errands, housework, shopping, or not do anything at all. (the last one's my favorite choice). But Friday is special because I get to go to church in the evening. I love going to church , worshipping with everybody, visiting with friends, it's just so fun. Today, I get to shop for Powerhouse's "Gift Shop" and that is always a blast. Toys, games, candy, mmm... mmm... mmm! And while the kids and I are doing that, Scott will be setting up a special something at home for our 11 year old son. (hint - in the music room) I can't wait to see the look on his face! So, when you see AJ tonight , you'll notice a smile on his face that none can erase. And what did AJ do to deserve such a gift? one may ask, NOTHING! It's called GRACE :) thanks to Josh Myers who reminded me of that. Well, I'll see you at church tonight, my xangaland friends! | | |
| Ok, so the kids and I bought some yarn, crochet hooks and an instructional booklet. (Thanks to a kid in chilren's church who influenced us!) Love is patient, love is kind - who would ever guess that we can learn about God's love from a silly metal stick with a hook at the end and some yarn? The really long chains of yarn remind us of how never ending His LOVE is for us, the overwhelming JOY when someone finaly learn how to start the chain, how NOT TO BE ENVIOUS of one's longer chain, and to BEAR ALL THINGS - well, that is, the pain in your thumb muscles after you make the really long chain. And when you make a mistake, if FORGIVES all things and makes it all better. Now that's what I call a life lesson. | | |
